Used to the United States: 1882 (23 Sep.) single rate envelope from Graaff Reinet to South Hadley, Mass bearing 1871-76 ½d grey-black, 1d carmine-red and 1880 3d pale dull rose (Two Copies), all tied by "230" (rounded "3") BONC, GRAAFF REINET SP 23 82 c.d.s. and a haphazard attempt at the "2½d" credit in red crayon, backstamped with London transit of 16 October 1882 and New York Paid All transit applied over an unclear Cape Town transit, very attractive three color franking combination, P Ex Dillaway. SG 28, 29, 36 (2).

The Numeral "230"(rounded "3") was in use for only eighteen months to April 1883, compared with the Numeral "18" (earliest date 22 Oct. 1867 and Numeral "201" (earliest date 8 Aug. 1883) which were both used for approximately nine years.
