Prisoner of War registered envelope from Aberdeen (initially part of the district of Graaff-Reinet) to Hawke Island, Bermuda bearing 1900 Table Bay 1d carmine block of, four (small faults) and single tied by ABERDEEN AU 21 02 C.G.H. c.d.s. cancels, previously unrecorded violet double oval REGISTERED / NUMBER (added in ms.) /ABERDEEN C.C. (Cape Colony) handstamp and oval London Registered transit datestamp of 13 September 1902, backstamped by faint Hamilton, Bermuda receiver, very scarce., ex Dillaway. SG 69.

The village of Aberdeen was founded on 10 September 1855 and was named after the Scottish birthplace of the Rev. Andrew Murray, Minister at Graaff-Reinet. By 1904 the population was 2,553, of whom 1,188 were literate.
