Lot 109
CROSSROADS: Four Segment; Rohloff C-4 Type II Variety: Dropped Circular, tying an 1881, 1¢ gray blue, re-engraved on an UN-ADDRESSED circular bearing Waterbury, Conn cancel, Ex Gross, (206). Est. Cash Val. $75 - 100
Unlisted in Rohloff. Similar to type C-4 but with negative circles in each segment. The 1c Re-engraved stamp of 1881 and the style of the townmark define the use between 1881 and 1885. A date was not required on circular mail; the absence of an adressee indicate that the circular was "dropped" into every post office box. Possibly a unique usage.
