British Guiana, Used to British Guiana: Great Britain, 1847-54, Queen Victoria, 1s pale green (embossed) + 1d red brown (embossed is cut to shape), tied by "498" in grid cancels on folded letter sheet (less bottom back flaps), bearing MANCHESTER SP1 1856 c.d.s., manuscript "Per Ori" on reverse red G.B. transit and DEMERARA SP 24 1856 receiver. SG 17, 54. (Scott 5, 8). Estimate $600 - 800
Great Britain covers (pre UPU) are incredibly rare to British Guiana, perhaps less than 60 in all. We know of only one other cover bearing an embossed issue stamp.
