April 7th 2011 Auction!    

     Two of the Greatest Names in the Philatelic Auction Industry will join forces at the ASDA Spring Postage Stamp Show in New York.  Our second public auction will precede the Kelleher Auction utilizing the same facilities. 

     This date confidently corresponds with the start of ASDA show in NYC, April 7-10, 2011

     Both viewing and the auction will be held at the New Yorker Hotel. (the same hotel as the show)

   Viewing available April 4th, 5th and 6th in the "Bank Room" at the hotel.

   The auction will commence at 10:00 am on April 7th in the "Bank Room" with afternoon lots available for viewing at Harmer/Kelleher booth on the show floor.

     Our April 7th 2011 Auction catalogue will be on-line soon.  To request a printed version, please contact our offices or complete a New Client Registration form.

    Viewing will be Monday the 4^th,  Tuesday the 5^th, Wednesday the 6^th with limited viewing on the 7^th.  Viewing begins each day at 10am and close at 5pm.  Appointments for before and after hours can be made by contacting our office at 212.532.3700. 

      Both the viewing and the auction will take place at the ASDA show headquarters, The New Yorker Hotel.  The hotel is conveniently located in Midtown Manhattan on 34th Street and the corner of 8th Avenue,  just across from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station.

Consignments are arriving for our Next Auction in July 2011

     Plans are currently underway for a July 2011 public auction. While we will continue offering private auction and private treaty sales arrangements, with our Kelleher Auctions teaming arrangement, we can increase the frequency of our public auctions without compromising the quality of our material.

     Mr. Keith Harmer has begun accepting consignments for his Summer Auction.  Early consignments are particularly encouraged for large or complex collections.  Please contact our offices for more information or to schedule an appointment.

 

What are Private Treaty Sales?

       Private treaty sales are direct sales that occur through conferences between buyers and sellers.

What is the difference between a Private Treaty Sale and an Auction?

     Private Treaty sales focus the sale effort on Harmer customers know to have an affinity for particular material. The price of the material in a Private Treaty Sales is established by the seller. In an auction, market conditions establish the price. Private Treaty sales can, on most occasions, provide a settlement check quicker than when the material is sold through auction.

      At Harmers, we are ever alert to the special needs of its clients, and we maintain a superior service, when warranted, for the direct sales of stamps. Harmers is in constant contact with collectors and dealers throughout the world, many of whom have standing offers for a wide variety of material they desire.

     Buyers are readily available for important single rarities and general specialized collections. The price asked is determined by a Harmer appraisal and the vendor’s approval of that figure.

 Private Treaty Details and Advantages

        - Private Treaty Sales can often be finalized in a few weeks.

        - Settlement – Check is sent immediately after payment is received from the buyer.

        - Private Treaty Commission – 5% to the Seller.  In addition, a commission will be payable by the buyer.

When is Private Treaty Appropriate?

         The forum in which one selects to offer material is 70% experience and 30% luck. Harmers considers many factors, including not only the material itself, but both the personal needs of the Seller and market conditions as well.
     Auctioning material at an inappropriate time may make the material difficult to re-offer. To maximize the returns for our customer, we offer a Private Treaty to Auction plan.

Private Treaty to Auction Plan

      Harmers offers a plan where a collection, when suitable, is offered first by Private Treaty for a specified period of time. If unsold, it is then transferred to the Auction Department for sale on a date previously reserved, preventing any delay.
